The transition to internet protocol (IP) networks has been underway in the broadcast industry for some time. However, only recently have standards been defined that allow true interoperability and efficiency that make the switch from Media Industry Specific interfaces, like SDI, to IP a feasible option for migration.
IP networks use internet technology ecosystems that offer more agility and flexibility for broadcasters. In the long run, this means decreased costs, improved bandwidth consumption at higher bit rates, flexibility and improved overall efficiency. Additionally, IP switches are bidirectional and can manage multiple input and output ports, unlike SDI.
This webinar will give an overview of the Broadcast & Media industry’s transformation to “All-IP”. A comparison will be done between traditional SDI signal flows and the new paradigm using IP-based switching. The methods for delivering “IP-friendly” real-time media over IP will be explained, including SMPTE ST 2110, as well as the new Network Media Open Specifications for control and management.
