Live program distribution from broadcasters or programmers to local stations or MVPDs commonly use C-band satellite distribution in many parts of the world today. However, as outlined in a previous MediaKind application paper, C-band satellite is being impacted by re-allocation for 5G mobile telephony – and the trend is going to continue as mobile traffic continues to increase.
So, what can users of satellite and C-band space do? There are a number of options, but it is, perhaps, a good time to revisit the architectures used for these types of systems and to evaluate whether newer technologies might offer a more future-proof and flexible approach for program distribution.
